Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday rejected opposition criticism, asserting that the National Democratic Alliance would form the government following the 2029 general elections. Shah made the statement while inaugurating infrastructure projects worth ₹8,941 crore dedicated to cleaning and rejuvenating the Yamuna river in Delhi.
Addressing the opposition's concerns, Shah contended that public demonstrations against government policies would yield no results, signalling the ruling coalition's confidence ahead of the next national polls. The home minister positioned the Yamuna cleanup initiative as part of the government's development agenda, arguing it demonstrated the NDA's commitment to addressing environmental challenges.
The Yamuna river, which flows through Delhi, has long been a focus of environmental concerns and cleanup efforts by successive governments. The inauguration of these projects represents one of the largest infrastructure commitments for riverine restoration in the capital.
Shah's remarks underscored the government's readiness for electoral contests ahead, with the home minister batting away opposition resistance as ineffective. The BJP-led NDA has consistently maintained its position that voter mandates would support its continuation in power beyond 2029.
