BJP wins two seats in Bihar Council teacher elections

Election authorities in Bihar announced results Wednesday for four teacher constituency seats in the ongoing Legislative Council elections, with the BJP emerging victorious in two contests. The saffron party retained the Tirhut seat and secured the Saran seat, where an independent candidate backed by the party won on second preference votes. In Saran, the BJP-backed independent candidate Rahul Raj defeated other contenders by leveraging second preference votes in a competitive contest. Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Dr. Sanjeev won the Patna teacher seat, while Jan Suraj party candidate Suresh Prasad Ray claimed victory in Darbhanga. The teacher constituencies, which comprise educators from government and private institutions as voting members, have historically been competitive battlegrounds for various political parties in the council elections. Four remaining teacher seats are yet to announce results, while separate elections for four graduate constituencies are also pending. The Bihar Legislative Council teacher and graduate seats represent a significant portion of the 243-member upper house, which comprises elected members from various constituencies and nominated representatives.
