Blinkit expands PM Vishwakarma artisans' reach through rapid commerce platform

Blinkit is moving to connect artisans enrolled in the government's PM Vishwakarma scheme with urban consumers through its rapid delivery platform, marking an expansion into traditional handicraft commerce. The initiative, beginning with a Bengaluru pilot, aims to list handcrafted products made by scheme beneficiaries and provide comprehensive support for their digital transition.

As part of the programme, the quick-commerce company will guide participating artisans through essential e-commerce operations including digital onboarding, order fulfilment, product packaging and logistics. The initiative addresses a critical gap for traditional craftspeople seeking to scale beyond local markets while maintaining their craft-based livelihoods.

The PM Vishwakarma scheme, launched to support traditional artisans and craftspeople across India, has enrolled hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries since its inception. The partnership with Blinkit represents an effort to leverage digital commerce infrastructure for scheme participants, potentially opening access to a customer base across major Indian cities.

The pilot programme's success could determine whether the model is expanded to other cities, offering a potential blueprint for integrating traditional handicraft commerce into India's growing rapid-delivery ecosystem. For artisans, the platform provides logistics and infrastructure typically unavailable to individual craftspeople operating at small scales.
