BMW Industries has entered the colour-coated steel segment with the commissioning of a new production line at its Bokaro complex in Jharkhand on Monday. The move positions the company among India's select producers of this value-added steel product, according to Managing Director Harsh Bansal.
The colour coating facility forms the first phase of BMW Industries' greenfield downstream steel complex at Bokaro, part of the company's broader Rs 800-crore expansion initiative. The facility has been established under the government's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Speciality Steel, which was launched in 2021 with an outlay of Rs 6,322 crore.
The Kolkata-headquartered manufacturer, which previously focused on steel coils, sheets, pipes and TMT rebars, is leveraging the new line to address rising demand from key sectors including infrastructure development, automotive manufacturing and consumer goods production.
The PLI Scheme's first round targets promotion of value-added steel grades domestically, supporting India's steelmaking industry as it moves up the value chain. BMW Industries' entry into colour-coated steel production reflects growing domestic appetite for specialised steel products across multiple industrial segments.
