Zahid Hamidi said the decision to reserve the seats for PN was made through a mutual agreement between the two coalitions and BN would honour the arrangement. The allocation is part of the electoral pact between the two major political blocs ahead of the Melaka state poll.
The seat distribution agreement reflects the ongoing political cooperation between BN and PN at the state level. Under the arrangement, PN candidates will contest in seven of the state assembly constituencies, while BN will field candidates in the remaining seats.
BN's decision to maintain its position on the seat allocation underscores the stability of the coalition agreement. Zahid emphasised that the party remains committed to the terms agreed upon with PN, signalling continuity in their electoral partnership for the Melaka election.
The electoral cooperation between BN and PN has been a significant development in Malaysian politics, with both coalitions seeking to leverage their combined strength in state-level contests. The Melaka election will be closely watched as a barometer of the political landscape in the southern state.
