Barisan Nasional chairman Zahid Hamidi confirmed that negotiations between BN and PAS have been concluded, paving the way for both coalitions to proceed with their election campaigns for the Melaka state assembly. The seat distribution reflects BN's dominant position in the state, where the coalition will seek to maintain control by contesting the vast majority of available seats. The arrangement sees PAS and its allied parties contesting 7 seats, significantly fewer than BN's allocation. The snap election was called following political developments in the state, with both coalitions now formally registered their candidates according to the agreed-upon seat distribution. Election officials are expected to announce nomination day details and the election date in accordance with Malaysia's electoral timeline for state-level contests.
