Body of 52-year-old man discovered in drain in Bukit Mertajam

BUKIT MERTAJAM — The body of a 52-year-old man was discovered in a drain near Taman Ciku in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, on Thursday. The remains, which showed signs of decomposition, were spotted by a member of the public who alerted authorities to the discovery.
Royal Malaysia Police responded to the report and secured the scene pending a full investigation. Officers from the Bukit Mertajam district police headquarters took charge of preliminary inquiries at the location.
The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin. The body has been transferred to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. Investigations are ongoing to establish the timeline of events leading up to the discovery and to rule out foul play or accidental circumstances.
