BAGUIO CITY — Authorities recovered the body of Jasper Cawi Pallogan, 20, on Monday after he was swept away by strong currents while crossing the Chico River in Lubuagan, Kalinga. The recovery operation took place at approximately 4 p.m. in the river near Barangay Bantay in Tabuk City.
Pallogan was caught by the river's powerful currents while attempting to traverse the waterway. Despite immediate efforts to locate him, rescue teams had to expand their search area as the current carried him downstream from the initial crossing point.
The incident underscores the dangers posed by the Chico River, particularly during periods when water flow intensifies. Local authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the crossing or whether safety precautions were in place at the time of the incident.
Investigations into the drowning are ongoing. The body has been turned over to local authorities for documentation and family notification procedures.
