OLONGAPO CITY — The body of a seven-year-old Aeta boy has been recovered from a river in Botolan, Zambales, ending a search that began when the cart he was riding in with his father was swept away by strong currents.

The Philippine Coast Guard confirmed the discovery Thursday of the boy, who went missing during the river crossing incident. His 35-year-old father was reported missing in the same incident.

The incident occurred when the family attempted to cross the river using a carabao-drawn cart. Strong water currents proved too powerful for the traditional mode of transport, sweeping away both the cart and its passengers.

The recovery of the boy's body marks a tragic conclusion to the search efforts. Authorities continue operations in the area as investigations into the incident proceed.
