OLONGAPO CITY — Rescuers have recovered the body of a three-year-old boy who was swept away by raging floodwaters in Barangay Old Cabalan on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 30.
The child was discovered along the boardwalk area within the Subic Bay Freeport zone, according to Jeffrey Lapid, head of the Olongapo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).
The incident marks another casualty from the severe flooding that affected the city during the period. Flash floods have continued to pose significant risks to residents in low-lying communities throughout the region.
Officials have urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and heed evacuation orders during heavy rainfall warnings. The CDRRMO continues to monitor weather conditions and coordinate rescue and recovery operations.
