Boeing shares tumble as aircraft delivery targets slip

Boeing shares dropped 9.6 per cent to $170.23 on the New York Stock Exchange following the disclosure of delayed production timelines and reduced delivery expectations. The planemaker announced it would not achieve its target of delivering 500 aircraft in 2026, a significant revision to previously communicated goals that has rattled investor confidence.

The aircraft manufacturer attributed the slowdown to challenges in ramping up 737 MAX production, a programme critical to the company's recovery following earlier safety certifications issues. The delayed production schedule reflects ongoing supply chain pressures and manufacturing complexities that have persisted across the aerospace sector.

The revised forecast also indicated Boeing expects approximately $3 billion in cash flow, a figure lower than earlier projections. This downward revision has compounded concerns among market participants about the company's near-term financial performance and capital allocation strategy.

The stock decline to multi-month lows underscores broader investor anxiety regarding Boeing's path to recovery and its ability to capitalise on strong industry demand for commercial aircraft. Analysts will likely scrutinise the company's upcoming guidance and quarterly earnings reports to assess whether additional headwinds may impact future forecasts.
