TAGBILARAN CITY — Agricultural losses in Bohol have surged to P173.69 million as an extended dry spell linked to El Niño conditions continues to devastate the province's farming sector. The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist reported that the damage affects 6,676 farmers distributed across 24 of Bohol's 48 municipalities and cities, based on preliminary findings.

The prolonged drought has emerged as a significant threat to the livelihoods of rural communities dependent on agricultural production. The pattern of water scarcity, attributed to El Niño weather patterns, has persisted longer than typical seasonal variations, compounding the impact on crop yields and farm productivity.

Local government officials in Tagbilaran City are mobilizing response measures to address the agricultural crisis. The provincial administration is developing contingency strategies to support affected farming communities and mitigate further losses as dry conditions are expected to continue in the coming weeks.

The agricultural sector comprises a substantial portion of Bohol's economy, making the current drought a concern for provincial planners. State agencies are coordinating with municipal officials to monitor crop conditions and provide assistance to the most vulnerable farm families.
