TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Bohol 3rd District Representative Alexie Besas-Tutor has introduced a bill seeking to ban children aged 15 and below from creating social media accounts as part of broader efforts to safeguard minors online.
Under the proposed measure, young users aged 16 and 17 would be required to obtain verified parental or guardian consent before establishing social media profiles. The proposal reflects growing concerns over the risks children face when using social networking platforms, including exposure to inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and privacy violations.
Besas-Tutor's initiative aligns with similar protective measures being debated in other countries, where lawmakers have sought to establish age restrictions on digital platforms to shield vulnerable young users.
