CATIGBIAN, Bohol — The municipal government of Catigbian is intensifying efforts to secure water supplies and protect farming communities ahead of El Niño conditions that could bring extended dry weather to the region.

Mayor Benjie Oliva said the local government has been actively identifying potential watershed areas and alternative water sources since April as part of its proactive response strategy. The municipality is working to map out rivers and other potential water reserves that could serve as backup supplies during the anticipated dry period.

The preparatory measures aim to safeguard both community water supplies and agricultural output, which are critical to the town's economy and residents' livelihoods. Officials are focusing on strengthening agricultural support systems alongside water security initiatives to help farmers adapt to reduced rainfall.

The El Niño phenomenon typically brings drier conditions across much of the Philippines, creating challenges for water-dependent communities and farming sectors. Catigbian's early action reflects broader efforts across Bohol and other regions to mitigate the impact of the climate pattern on vulnerable populations and economic activities.
