Bolivia and Paraguay have concluded their long-standing border demarcation process, bringing an end to nearly nine decades of diplomatic negotiations between the two nations. The agreement formalises the boundary line along their shared 755-kilometre frontier, a matter that has remained unresolved since the conclusion of a major regional conflict in the mid-20th century.
The dispute's roots trace back to the Chaco War, a brutal military conflict fought between 1932 and 1935 that left thousands dead and devastated the region. Following the cessation of hostilities, a 1938 treaty formally initiated the process of demarcating the border, though subsequent negotiations proved lengthy and complex.
