Bollywood actor Tushar Kapoor has become the target of an extortion attempt in which an unidentified caller demanded Rs 5 crore while invoking the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi criminal organization, according to police reports.
The threatening call came from someone claiming to be Harry Boxer, an associate linked to the Bishnoi gang. The caller made demands for the substantial sum, following a pattern of similar extortion attempts targeting high-profile figures in Mumbai's entertainment industry.
Mumbai Police launched an investigation into the matter, including technical analysis of the audio recording. Preliminary findings suggest that voice samples from the call do not match known recordings of Harry Boxer, casting doubt on the caller's claimed identity.
Authorities have since initiated a manhunt to identify and locate the person responsible for placing the extortion call. The case adds to growing concerns about organized crime networks exploiting the names of known criminal organizations to perpetrate financial crimes against celebrities and other wealthy individuals.
