BUDAPEST — Usain Bolt has suggested he would have been eager to compete in the World Athletics Ultimate Championship had the competition existed during his athletic career, citing both the opportunity to face elite competition and the sport's largest-ever prize fund.
The retired Jamaican sprinter, who dominated global track and field for over a decade before retiring in 2017, acknowledged the appeal of the newly-established event as it prepares for its first staging.
Bolt's comments underscore the championship's ambitions to attract top talent through its substantially elevated financial rewards compared to other athletics competitions.
