Bombay High Court orders probe into MHT-CET scorecard discrepancy

The Bombay High Court has rejected an immediate plea for relief from a B.Tech student who contested inconsistencies in his MHT-CET (Maharashtra Health and Technical Common Entrance Test) scorecard. Rather than granting direct intervention, the bench opted to direct the MHT-CET Cell to conduct a thorough investigation into the student's grievance.

The court's order requires the examination authority to examine the discrepancies flagged by the petitioner and submit a detailed report documenting its findings. This approach allows the regulatory body to address the complaint through its internal investigative mechanism before any judicial determination on the merits.

The decision reflects the court's preference for allowing administrative authorities to resolve such technical and procedural matters in the first instance. The MHT-CET Cell, responsible for administering the competitive entrance examination for engineering and medical programmes in Maharashtra, will now bear the responsibility of clarifying the scorecard issues and providing its assessment.

The outcome of the investigation and the examination cell's report will likely determine the next course of action regarding the student's challenge. This order underscores the importance of maintaining accuracy in examination records, which serve as the basis for merit-based admissions across professional programmes in the state.
