Ian Tyler has assumed the role of chairman at BP Plc, marking a significant leadership change at the British energy giant. Tyler's appointment comes after the unexpected exit of the previous chairman, signalling a strategic shift in the company's governance structure.

Tyler brings substantial experience from the natural resources sector to his new position. He previously served as chairman of Cairn Energy Plc, a major upstream oil and gas company, and currently holds the position of chairman at Grafton Group Plc, the Irish building materials and distribution company. Additionally, he serves as senior independent director at Anglo American Plc, one of the world's largest diversified mining companies.

His multi-sector background in energy and natural resources positions him to navigate the complex challenges facing global oil companies amid the energy transition. The appointment reflects BP's effort to strengthen its board with leadership experienced in managing large-scale industrial operations during periods of significant market transformation.
