BPCL profit slides 21.5% in Q2 despite higher revenues and refinery output
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited's second-quarter net profit fell sharply to ₹4,863 crore as compressed marketing margins offset gains from higher revenue and increased refinery throughput.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited reported a 21.5 per cent year-on-year decline in net profit for the second quarter of FY27, earning ₹4,863 crore as margin pressures in its marketing segment dampened overall profitability.
The decline came despite positive operational metrics. The company's total revenue climbed 30 per cent compared to the same quarter last year, while refinery throughput—a key measure of production capacity utilization—increased 6 per cent, demonstrating stronger operational performance across core segments.
The contraction in marketing margins, however, emerged as a significant headwind. Thin spreads between crude costs and refined product prices squeezed returns from the company's downstream business, which includes fuel retail and commercial sales. This margin compression overshadowed the benefits of higher sales volumes and improved refinery efficiency.
The results reflect broader challenges facing India's oil refining and marketing sector, where international crude prices and global product demand dynamics influence domestic margins. BPCL, one of India's three major state-run oil companies, continues balancing production expansion with profitability amid volatile market conditions.
