Brahminy kite rescued in Quezon province; turned over to authorities

LUCENA CITY — A Brahminy kite (Haliastur indus), locally known as "lawin," was discovered at a commercial establishment in Tayabas City, Quezon province, on Monday, September 7.
The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) received the bird and documented its condition upon rescue. The medium-sized raptor, characterized by its distinctive chestnut and white plumage, was promptly turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for further assessment and rehabilitation.
Brahminy kites are protected under Philippine wildlife laws due to their ecological significance. The species is commonly found in coastal and inland water areas throughout Southeast Asia, where they hunt for fish and other prey.
The rescue underscores local efforts to protect endangered avian species in the region. Residents are encouraged to report sightings of injured or distressed wildlife to their nearest CENRO office for immediate assistance and proper handling.
