Brake failure causes jeepney to overturn in Quezon; 16 hurt

LUCENA CITY — A jeepney carrying 16 people overturned in Barangay Magsaysay, Infanta on Saturday morning after its brakes allegedly malfunctioned on a downhill stretch, authorities said Sunday.

Quezon police reported the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. as the jeepney negotiated a steep downslope road. The vehicle's brakes failed to engage properly, causing it to lose control and overturn.

The driver and all 15 passengers aboard sustained injuries in the crash. The passengers were headed to a picnic outing when the accident occurred. Details on the severity of injuries and treatment status were not immediately available.

Investigators are examining the vehicle's brake system to determine the exact cause of the mechanical failure. The incident highlights ongoing road safety concerns on provincial highways in the region.
