PAGADIAN CITY – A road accident triggered by a van's brake failure has claimed six lives in Dumalanao, Zamboanga del Sur. The incident unfolded on Tuesday at approximately noon along the national highway in Barangay Paglaum when the vehicle, traveling at high speed, lost braking capability.

According to police reports, the out-of-control van collided with other vehicles traveling on the highway. The impact of the crash proved fatal for six occupants, while multiple other individuals sustained injuries from the collision.

Officers responding to the scene initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the brake failure. Initial findings suggest the vehicle's brake system malfunctioned while in motion, rendering the driver unable to slow or stop the van as it approached other traffic.

The exact number of injured victims and the complete list of those killed was still being compiled as authorities continued their investigation. The national highway in the area remains a critical transportation corridor, and authorities have not yet announced any traffic restrictions stemming from the accident.
