BRICS must strengthen supply chains, deepen Global South ties: Xi

At the concluding session of the BRICS Summit on Sunday, Xi proposed strengthening ties between the grouping and the broader Global South to foster economic integration and resilience. He emphasized the need for BRICS to write "a new chapter of strength through unity for the Global South," rejecting the principle that "might makes right" in international affairs.

Xi stressed the importance of international rules-based systems, comparing a world without such frameworks to "a crossroads without traffic lights, where chaos and disorder are all but guaranteed." He called for fairness and justice to guide international relations, stating that rules governing global affairs must be developed collectively rather than imposed by dominant powers.

The Chinese leader urged Global South countries to jointly defend the rule of law in international affairs and safeguard fundamental norms of international relations, including the principle of sovereign equality. His five-point initiative seeks to deepen cooperation across multiple economic sectors, positioning BRICS as a counterweight to Western-dominated economic structures and promoting a more multipolar international system.

The proposal reflects Beijing's broader strategy to strengthen partnerships with developing nations and position China as a champion of Global South interests in reshaping international economic governance.
