BRICS nations back agricultural cooperation framework at Delhi meet

Ministers and officials from BRICS nations have adopted a joint declaration backing a coordinated approach to agricultural development and food security challenges. The endorsement came during high-level discussions that prioritized strengthening cooperation on farming systems and rural development across the bloc.

The framework, known as BRICS AGRIN, establishes a global platform dedicated to advancing farmers' rights within seed systems and promoting equitable agricultural practices. The initiative reflects growing recognition among member states of the need for coordinated policies on agricultural governance and farmer welfare in an increasingly interconnected food system.

The declaration also supports the creation of a network of centres of excellence focused on regenerative agriculture—farming methods that emphasize soil health, biodiversity, and sustainable resource management. These centres will facilitate knowledge-sharing and capacity building across BRICS nations, enabling farmers and agricultural professionals to access cutting-edge research and best practices.

Digital agriculture cooperation emerged as another key pillar of the agreement. Member nations committed to exploring synergies in agricultural technology, data systems, and innovation to enhance productivity while addressing climate-related challenges in farming. The cooperation framework aims to bridge gaps in agricultural development across BRICS economies and strengthen food security resilience regionally.
