The New Delhi Declaration, issued following high-level discussions among the five-nation bloc comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, outlines concrete steps to reduce carbon emissions in the transport and aviation sectors.
The declaration calls for expanded cooperation on sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) as a critical measure to address emissions in the aviation industry, one of the fastest-growing contributors to global carbon output. Member nations have agreed to strengthen collaboration on developing and scaling SAF production, reducing dependence on conventional jet fuel.
Transport decarbonisation forms another pillar of the BRICS framework, with member states committing to investments in green infrastructure that promote cleaner mobility solutions.
