The BRICS Parliamentary Forum wrapped up proceedings in the national capital on Tuesday with participating nations issuing a joint declaration that prioritized institutional reform at the global level and collective action against extremism. The forum, which brings together legislators from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation among the five-nation bloc while addressing shared security challenges. The participants emphasized the need to modernize the UN Security Council to better reflect contemporary geopolitical realities and the interests of developing nations. The declaration underscored zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms, reflecting member states' commitment to coordinated counter-terrorism efforts across the bloc. Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla formally transferred the forum's presidency to China during the closing session, marking the transition of leadership responsibilities ahead of the next parliamentary forum in 2027. The forum's conclusions are expected to inform policy discussions among BRICS nations as they seek greater representation in international decision-making bodies and collaborative approaches to transnational security threats.
