Brief Strength Training Sessions Show Promise in Reducing Deep Body Fat
A new study suggests that even short bursts of resistance exercise may help combat visceral fat accumulation. Researchers found significant changes in deep fat tissue after minimal strength training intervention in an obesity model.

Researchers exploring the relationship between exercise and metabolic health have found encouraging results from a study examining the effects of brief strength training on abdominal fat deposits. The investigation focused on how resistance exercise influences visceral adipose tissue—the deep fat surrounding internal organs that poses particular health risks.
For the study, scientists induced obesity in laboratory mice through prolonged consumption of a high-fat diet over a 14-week period. Following this phase, the researchers introduced a short-term strength training protocol to assess its impact on fat tissue composition and metabolic markers.
The findings suggest that even minimal resistance training sessions demonstrated measurable effects on deep fat reduction. This outcome aligns with growing evidence that strength-based exercise may offer unique metabolic benefits beyond traditional cardiovascular training.
While the research was conducted in an animal model, scientists believe the mechanisms observed may have implications for human health. Visceral fat has long been linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic dysfunction, making interventions that reduce it particularly valuable.
The study adds to accumulating research challenging the notion that substantial time investment is necessary to achieve fitness benefits. However, researchers emphasize that findings from animal studies require validation through human trials before clinical recommendations can be established.
