Zhang Ruisheng, the brother of a convicted figure in a S$3 billion money laundering case, has been handed a jail sentence for his role in receiving substantial illicit funds.
Court documents indicate that Zhang received S$17.6 million in total, with a significant portion traced to money laundering activities under investigation by authorities. The funds were allegedly channelled through various transactions linked to the broader criminal enterprise.
Of the amount received, Zhang deployed approximately S$10.4 million towards the acquisition of a residential property located at Sentosa Cove, one of Singapore's most exclusive enclaves. The sum covered both the purchase price and associated stamp duty obligations.
The case forms part of a larger investigation into organised money laundering operations in Singapore, with multiple individuals implicated in the scheme. Authorities have intensified scrutiny over cross-border financial flows and the use of high-value property acquisitions as vehicles for laundering proceeds of crime.
The conviction underscores ongoing enforcement efforts by Singapore's financial authorities to combat money laundering and disrupt criminal networks operating through the financial system.
