K.T. Rama Rao, working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has challenged the government's proposed sale of IDBI Bank, seeking clarification on the valuation methodology employed for the disinvestment exercise. Rama Rao specifically questioned whether the bank's valuable real estate assets across multiple locations have been properly accounted for in determining its sale value.
The BRS leader's intervention comes as IDBI Bank employees have voiced significant concerns over the proposed disinvestment. Rama Rao pointed out that the grievances raised by bank staff regarding the transaction have not been adequately addressed by the government, raising questions about the transparency of the process.
IDBI Bank, a Development Financial Institution (DFI) that was later converted to a scheduled commercial bank, holds substantial property assets accumulated over decades. Critics of the proposed sale have argued that these real estate holdings represent considerable value that could be understated in a hasty valuation process.
The concerns raised by Rama Rao reflect broader skepticism within political circles and among banking sector stakeholders about the government's disinvestment strategy. Employee concerns typically focus on potential impacts on job security, service continuity, and terms of employment following a change in ownership or strategic partnership.
