The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has intensified pressure on the Telangana government to officially declare drought-hit mandals and announce relief packages for distressed farmers. BRS leader Harish Rao visited Burugupalli village in Gajwel mandal on Tuesday to assess ground conditions, where he observed extensive crop damage attributed to acute power supply shortages and insufficient irrigation water availability.
During the inspection, Rao examined withered fields across the region, highlighting how prolonged power cuts have crippled farmers' ability to operate irrigation pumps. The BRS has contended that inadequate water supply coupled with electricity disruptions has triggered a humanitarian crisis in agricultural areas, necessitating urgent state intervention.
The party has called on the state administration to formally recognize the drought-affected mandals through official notification, which would enable farmers to access government assistance schemes. Rao's visit underscores the BRS's push to place agricultural distress at the centre of political discourse ahead of potential relief announcements.
The inspection comes amid growing concerns about agrarian stress in Telangana's farming communities, with opposition parties demanding comprehensive assessments of crop damage and transparent disbursement of compensation. State officials have yet to formally announce drought declarations for specific mandals or unveil immediate relief measures in response to the concerns raised.
