BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was conferred the Darjah Kerabat Laila Utama by the Sultan of Brunei on Wednesday, receiving the sultanate's most prestigious family order decoration.

The award, presented during an official state function, represents one of Brunei's highest honours and underscores the personal recognition extended by the royal household to senior regional figures. Recipients of the decoration are entitled to use the style "Datuk Seri Setia".

The conferment takes place amid ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation between Malaysia and Brunei across trade, defence, and diplomatic channels. The two nations share historical ties rooted in their common heritage and geographic proximity within Southeast Asia.

Anwar's receipt of the honour adds to his growing portfolio of international recognitions since assuming office as Prime Minister. The Brunei sultanate has historically used such decorations to acknowledge the contributions and standing of prominent regional leaders.

The award ceremony reflects the continued importance placed by Brunei on strengthening relationships with neighbouring nations and key regional partners in advancing mutual interests across Southeast Asia.
