BSE to explore MSCI index derivatives launch in India

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has entered into a partnership with MSCI Inc. to explore the launch of derivatives products linked to MSCI indices in the Indian market. The proposed futures and options contracts would be subject to regulatory approval from India's market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

The collaboration represents BSE's strategic effort to expand its derivatives offerings and enhance market depth across multiple asset classes. By introducing MSCI-linked derivatives, the exchange aims to provide investors with additional hedging tools and investment opportunities while strengthening India's position as a growing financial hub in the region.

MSCI indices are widely used globally as benchmarks for equity markets and emerging economies. Their introduction in India's derivatives market could attract increased participation from foreign institutional investors seeking exposure to Indian equities through standardized index-based products.

The exchange will work through the formal regulatory approval process to bring these products to market. Subject to SEBI clearance, the derivatives could complement BSE's existing index offerings and provide market participants with more sophisticated risk management instruments.
