BSP launches indefinite hunger strike over SC burial case delays

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has launched an indefinite hunger strike to denounce what it characterises as significant delays in legal action concerning a case registered in Perumbali, Kerala. The agitation centres on the detention and burial circumstances of a Scheduled Caste man, for which a case was registered against six persons under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

According to the BSP, despite the formal case registration, none of the six accused individuals have been arrested. The party views the lack of arrests as indicative of insufficient urgency by law enforcement authorities in pursuing charges under the SC/ST Act, a stringent statute designed to protect members of marginalised communities from caste-based discrimination and violence.

The hunger strike represents an escalation of the BSP's efforts to draw official attention to what the party describes as a flagrant disregard for justice in the case. The party has consistently flagged concerns over the implementation of atrocity provisions and the protection of Dalit rights across India.

The authorities have not yet made public statements regarding the specific allegations or the reasons for any delays in arrest procedures. The case remains under investigation as the BSP's protest continues to mount pressure on state law enforcement agencies.
