Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. has ordered all armed personnel under his command to implement stricter security protocols for firearms and ammunition handling. The directive, issued Thursday through an official memorandum, specifically prohibits staff from leaving weapons unattended in locations where minors may access them.
Catapang emphasized the importance of responsible gun ownership practices among BuCor employees, citing recent shooting incidents as impetus for the enhanced security measures. The memorandum serves as a reminder to all armed personnel of their obligations to maintain proper custody and control of government-issued weapons at all times.
The order applies to all BuCor facilities nationwide and requires staff to store firearms and ammunition in designated secure locations when not in active use. Personnel have been instructed to account for all weapons regularly and to report any security breaches or policy violations immediately to their supervisors.
The directive forms part of the agency's broader workplace safety and accountability initiatives, underscoring management's commitment to preventing accidents and ensuring the protection of both staff and the public.
