Buddha's Piprahwa relics from Delhi museum travel to Arunachal Pradesh

The Piprahwa relics, a collection of sacred remains venerated across the Buddhist world, have been brought to Arunachal Pradesh for public display. The artifacts, currently held at a Delhi museum, originate from the Piprahwa archaeological site in Uttar Pradesh, an area historically associated with ancient Kapilavastu and the Shakya tradition of Buddha.

The relics carry immense spiritual and historical significance for Buddhist communities across Asia. Kapilavastu was the ancient kingdom where Buddha spent much of his early life before renouncing worldly life to pursue spiritual enlightenment. The Shakya people, Buddha's own clan, ruled this region during the 6th century BCE.

The decision to showcase these relics in Arunachal Pradesh reflects the region's deep Buddhist heritage and growing importance as a center of Buddhist pilgrimage and study. The state, with its substantial Buddhist population and numerous monasteries, has emerged as a key destination for religious tourism in Northeast India.

The display represents a rare opportunity for devotees and scholars in the northeastern region to view these historically significant artifacts without traveling to the national capital.
