Buddhist monk released on bail in Batticaloa arrest case
The Batticaloa Magistrate's Court has ordered the release of Ven. Ampitiye Sumanarathana Thero on bail following his arrest by local police. The senior Buddhist cleric was granted release on personal bail bonds totalling Rs. 400,000.

Ven. Ampitiye Sumanarathana Thero was released on bail by the Batticaloa Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, September 11, following his detention by the Batticaloa Police. The court ordered his release on two personal bail bonds of Rs. 200,000 each, bringing the total bail amount to Rs. 400,000.
The Buddhist monk had been arrested on September 7 in connection with an incident currently under investigation by police. Details regarding the specific nature of the charges against him remain limited at this stage of the proceedings.
The release came after the court hearing in the Eastern Province district. The bail conditions have been set as the matter continues through the judicial process.
