PUTRAJAYA — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has underscored that Budget 2027 was designed to reinforce Islam's role in the country's institutional and social fabric, while pushing back against what he termed unfounded criticisms from political rivals.
Speaking in Putrajaya on Monday, Anwar dismissed allegations of inconsistency in the government's handling of Islamic matters, characterising such accusations as coming from those he described as hypocritical detractors.
The Prime Minister's remarks come as the government prepares for implementation of next year's budget allocation. He reiterated the administration's commitment to balancing fiscal responsibility with support for Islam as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
The Budget 2027 announcement has drawn scrutiny from various quarters regarding how funds designated for Islamic institutions and programmes align with broader governance objectives. Anwar's defence signals the government's intent to maintain its stance on the matter amid ongoing political discourse.
