A tragic incident unfolded in Mohali's Aerocity locality on Monday when a construction site was struck by disaster following intense rainfall. The ground beneath an under-construction building gave way due to the waterlogging, causing a significant portion of the structure to collapse on the workers present at the site.
Four labourers were trapped under the rubble of the fallen structure. Emergency response teams and rescue personnel quickly mobilized to the scene to conduct relief and rescue operations, working to extract the workers from beneath the debris.
Rescue efforts proved partially successful, with two workers being safely pulled from the wreckage and rushed to a nearby hospital. However, two other labourers could not be saved. Authorities confirmed their deaths at the scene.
The collapse underscores ongoing safety concerns at construction sites across Punjab, particularly during the monsoon season when heavy rainfall and waterlogging pose significant structural risks. Officials have not yet released detailed statements regarding the cause of the ground subsidence or the structural integrity standards that may have been compromised at the site.
