MALAYBALAY CITY — Indigenous elders and tribal authorities from the Bukidnon-Daraghuyan Ancestral Domain formally opened a dedicated abaca weaving center on Saturday, reaffirming their commitment to sustaining ancestral traditions.

The facility, established within the ancestral domain, represents a concerted effort by community leaders to maintain cultural practices while creating economic opportunities for tribal members. Officials conducted traditional rituals during the opening ceremony as part of broader Indigenous Peoples' Month observances.

Tribal authorities emphasized the importance of transmitting weaving knowledge and techniques to younger generations, ensuring that the craft continues to define the community's cultural identity. The center is expected to serve as both a production hub and educational space where traditional methods can be taught and refined.

Abaca weaving holds significant cultural and economic value for many indigenous groups in Mindanao. By establishing a dedicated facility, the Bukidnon-Daraghuyan community aims to strengthen market access for their products while documenting and preserving techniques passed down through generations.
