MARAMAG, Bukidnon — The Maramag Municipal Police Station on Monday clarified that school-related bullying did not cause the death of a 10-year-old elementary student who died three weeks prior.
Lt. Col. Evary Bacunawa, chief of the Maramag police, stated that the child was not beaten by classmates as had been reported by a local broadcast outlet. The clarification came after the earlier media report raised concerns about bullying in school settings.
The police statement comes as the Department of Justice has tasked prosecutors with handling bullying cases more effectively. Officials have not disclosed alternative details regarding the cause of the student's death.
