VALENCIA CITY — Health officials in Bukidnon are grappling with a steady increase in HIV diagnoses, marking a setback in efforts to contain the spread of the virus in the region.

The Valencia City Health Office recorded 24 newly confirmed HIV cases between January and September this year, according to Dr. Juniver Flores, head of the infectious disease unit. The continued rise highlights the ongoing vulnerability of communities in the province despite awareness campaigns and prevention initiatives rolled out by local government units.

Dr. Flores emphasized that transmission patterns and demographic data from the latest cases are being analyzed to better target public health interventions. Health authorities have urged residents to undergo voluntary testing and counseling, particularly those at higher risk of infection.

The provincial health office is coordinating with municipal health centers across Bukidnon to strengthen surveillance systems and expand access to antiretroviral therapy for those diagnosed with the virus. Officials stressed the importance of early detection and consistent treatment adherence in reducing transmission rates and improving patient outcomes.
