MALAYBALAY CITY — The bottom 30 percent of income earners in Bukidnon province are bearing the brunt of accelerating price pressures, with their inflation rate climbing to 9.5 percent in September from 8.0 percent the previous month, according to data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority on October 12.

Rising food costs have emerged as the primary driver of the inflation surge, with rice and corn prices leading the increases. These essential commodities make up a substantial portion of household budgets for lower-income families, amplifying the impact of price movements on their purchasing power and ability to meet basic nutritional needs.

The widening gap between headline inflation and the rates experienced by lower-income households underscores the uneven nature of current price pressures across the provincial economy. While middle and higher-income families may have greater flexibility in adjusting their consumption patterns, poorer households face limited options in absorbing cost increases for essential food items.

The provincial government and national authorities continue to monitor inflation trends as policymakers weigh measures to address affordability concerns affecting vulnerable populations across the Mindanao region.
