The Bukit Panjang LRT line, which serves commuters across the western part of Singapore, has been undergoing systematic upgrades since 2018 as part of a long-term renewal initiative. The programme is designed to extend the operational lifespan of the line and improve service quality for its daily users.
The renewal project encompasses infrastructure improvements, system enhancements and maintenance work across the entire line. Officials have confirmed that the work is progressing according to schedule, with completion targeted before the end of 2024.
The Bukit Panjang LRT, which opened in 1999, is Singapore's oldest light rail transit system. The renewal programme represents a significant investment in maintaining and modernising the ageing network to meet current and future transport demands in the western corridor.
Commuters have experienced periodic disruptions during the renovation process, though operators have worked to minimise service interruptions. Completion of the upgrade is expected to deliver improved reliability and reduced maintenance requirements for the line.
