The Bulacan Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved Resolution No. 708-T'2026 during its regular session on Thursday, formally recognizing the calamity status across the province. The action came after weeks of continuous rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems and caused widespread inundation in low-lying areas.
Coastal municipalities bore the brunt of the disaster, with the towns of Calumpit, Hagonoy, and Bulakan experiencing the most severe impacts. Floodwaters in these areas reached heights of approximately six feet, submerging homes, agricultural lands, and critical infrastructure and displacing residents from their communities.
The state of calamity declaration enables local government units to access emergency funds, expedite procurement procedures for relief supplies, and coordinate response efforts more effectively. Provincial officials are expected to coordinate with national agencies to assess damage and determine the full scope of rehabilitation needs.
Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow evacuation orders as weather conditions remain unstable. The provincial government continues to monitor water levels and rainfall patterns as rescue and relief operations proceed across affected municipalities.
