Bulacan scales back del Pilar birth anniversary rites amid monsoon rains

BULAKAN, Bulacan — Organizers modified Sunday's tribute to journalist and independence advocate Marcelo H. del Pilar due to severe weather conditions affecting Bulacan province. The morning program, originally scheduled for 8 a.m. at the Marcelo H. del Pilar Shrine in Sitio Cupang, Barangay San Nicolas, was adjusted in response to continuous downpours from the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.

The decision to scale back the commemoration reflected safety concerns for participants and attendees. Officials weighed the need to honor the 176-year legacy of del Pilar, a prominent figure in Philippine journalism and the nationalist movement, against the hazardous weather conditions affecting the province.

The enhanced southwest monsoon has brought significant rainfall across the region in recent days. Such adjustments to scheduled outdoor events are common during the monsoon season, which typically brings heavy precipitation to parts of Luzon.
