Bulusan volcano park survey reveals thriving avian ecosystem

MANILA — An avian survey conducted at Bulusan Volcano Natural Park (BVNP) in Sorsogon province has documented the rich diversity of bird species inhabiting the forest ecosystem beneath the volcano's dense canopy. The assessment, spanning three days across different elevation zones within the park, recorded resident species, endemic birds found nowhere else in the world, and ecologically sensitive taxa, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The survey results underscore the ecological significance of the protected area, which encompasses forests at varying altitudes that support distinct avian communities. Birds documented during the assessment ranged from colorful forest-dwelling species to rare endemics whose survival depends on preserving the park's natural habitat.
