The bus plunged off the Ananthagiri ghat road, a notoriously winding stretch of highway in the Vikarabad district, during the afternoon hours. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the vehicle badly damaged with passengers trapped inside and others scattered across the roadside.
Four women died in the incident, while several other passengers sustained injuries of varying severity. Those injured were transferred to nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment. The exact toll of injured passengers was still being compiled as rescue operations continued.
Investigators suspect brake failure was the primary cause of the accident. The mountainous terrain and sharp curves of the ghat road are known to present significant driving challenges, particularly for heavily loaded vehicles. Preliminary examination of the bus's mechanical condition pointed toward a failure in the braking system, though a detailed forensic investigation is underway.
The vehicle had been en route from Kesaram village in the Patancheru area when the accident took place. Authorities have launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the maintenance record of the bus. Road safety officials are also reviewing conditions on the ghat road to prevent similar accidents in future.
