Bus operators criticise ticket sales restrictions at unlicensed terminals

The Malaysian bus operators association has voiced strong objections to a directive restricting express bus ticket sales exclusively to terminals licensed by Apad, the bus station operator association. The operators say the policy creates unfair conditions for the industry and travelling public alike.

According to the association, the constraint limits customer convenience by reducing available points of sale for bus tickets across the country. Many passengers who relied on purchasing tickets from non-Apad licensed terminals now face additional inconvenience and travel complications.

The association has particularly criticised the implementation process, noting that bus operators were not consulted prior to the Land Public Transport Agency rolling out the new restrictions. This lack of stakeholder engagement has compounded frustration within the sector.

The operators argue that a more collaborative approach between regulators and industry players would have resulted in a policy better suited to market conditions and customer needs. The association is reportedly seeking dialogue with the transport agency to review the decision.
