The Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court delivered the sentence following the businessman's conviction on assault charges relating to an incident involving his ex-girlfriend. In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed a financial penalty of RM5,000 against the offender.

The case underscores ongoing concerns regarding domestic violence and intimate partner assault in Malaysia. The court's decision reflects judicial efforts to address such offences with appropriate penalties that serve both punitive and deterrent purposes.

The conviction comes as authorities continue to prioritise cases involving violence against women and former partners. Malaysian law enforcement agencies have ramped up efforts to combat domestic violence through increased prosecution and public awareness campaigns.

The sentence is in line with Malaysia's legal framework governing assault offences, which carries provisions for imprisonment and fines depending on the severity and circumstances of each case. The magistrate's ruling reinforces the judiciary's commitment to protecting individuals from physical harm within domestic and personal relationships.
